Retrospective Exhibition: Naguib Mahfouz

The poster had to revolve around typography and a concept to communicate the exhibition theme and message. The artist that I chose was Naguib Mahfouz, Naguib Mahfouz is a famous Egyptian writer that wrote many novels and short stories, he has won a noble prize for literature and is a very prominent figure in Arabic literature; a catalog was also created. 

The concept was based on Conservatism: The Mens’ position in the society versus women. They are presented in a paradoxical manner; Tarboosh is an icon of power, authority & manhood. 

The Mashrabiya portrays the women’s position in the society. It shows the constraint in their approach and how they are not exposed to the outside world.
